SWE Maine Scholarship, Applications open for 2024!

The Society of Women Engineers is Pleased to present our Maine SWE Scholarship for 2024. This scholarship is intended to encourage Maine High School Senior Girls to pursue Engineering in their education.

2024 Application is due 5pm, April 26, 2024. To apply please download and fill in the scholarship application, attach supporting documentation and send the completed application to swe.mainechapter@gmail.com.


Award Selection Criteria

Maine SWE Scholarship Purpose:

To encourage Maine senior high school girls to enter the field of engineering. The secondary purpose is to promote Society of Women Engineers. The current scholarship value is: $1,000.

Maine SWE Scholarship eligibility requirements:

A high school senior girl from Maine pursuing engineering or engineering technology studies at an accredited college.

Application Selection Criteria:

Application consists of personal data, list of activities and work history, academic information, recommendation from a math or science teacher, and an essay focused on the applicant’s interest in engineering and plans. Scholarship will be awarded based on four factors:

Scholarship Criteria

  • 1. Academic — 20%
  • 2. Hardworking/motivated — 30%
  • 3. Well-rounded — 20%
  • 4. Interested in engineering – 30%

Based on:

  • 1) List of activities
  • 2) An essay of 300 – 500 words
  • 3) GPA/PSAT/SAT/ACT
  • 4) Teacher and/or guidance counselor assessment
  • 5) College you plan to attend (or top 3 choices if undecided)

Application checklist:

Please attach the following documents to the scholarship application and submit your application to swe.mainechapter@gmail.com by 5pm on the last Friday in April.

  • Essay
  • Copy of Transcript
  • Copy of Official PSAT/SAT/ACT Scores
  • Letter of Recommendation from a Math or Science Teacher

Scholarship Management:

Since Maine SWE is non-profit, there are no strict guidelines as to the management of the scholarship. However, the Scholarship chair will hold documentation for a minimum of five years. The Maine Section of the Society of Women Engineers has the sole responsibility for selecting recipients.
