🔧✨ This past Saturday, March 8th, the Maine Section of the Society of Women Engineers hosted our annual Take Apart a Toaster event with the Girl Scouts of Maine—and it was a huge success!
We welcomed 16 Girl Scouts, along with their Troop Leaders, Parents, and six amazing SWE volunteers for a hands-on engineering experience.
🔹 To kick things off, we explored mini self-retracting measuring tapes, breaking them down piece by piece to understand their components and mechanics.
🔹 Then, in small groups, we tackled an assortment of donated items—keyboards, monitors, printers, bikes, fans, vacuums, and more!
🔹 The Girl Scouts got hands-on with essential tools like Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, Allen wrenches, and more, building confidence with each turn of the wrench.
It was a fantastic day of learning, curiosity, and hands-on fun! A huge thank you to our volunteers and participants for making this event possible. Looking forward to next year!
