Join SWE Maine for one of our most beloved Outreach programs – Take Apart a Toaster. In this program, we invite Girls Scouts from Maine to a morning of tinkering and exploration. Members of the SWE chapter provide guidance, support, and knowledge as girls take apart and investigate the components within household appliances.

SWE Members

Come join us at the Take Apart a Toaster event on Saturday, March 8, at the Regional 10 Vocational School in Brunswick, ME! We will be holding an event where Girl Scouts can come, learn about who we are and learn through action by pulling apart old or broken small appliances, electronics such as fans, keyboards and vacuums, or bicycles.

Volunteer

Help us show girls how to take apart various items and teach them about how things work. (We ask Volunteers to arrive by 8:30.

Donate items the girls might enjoy taking apart such as broken toasters, vacuums, fans, keyboards, and bicycles. (Note: please avoid any that contain fluids/fuel that haven’t been properly evacuated and cleaned)

Bring tools and protective equipment for girls to share. Please mark personal items so we know whom they belong to at the end of the event.

There will be donuts!

Engage with other SWE Members!

Volunteering at the event is a great way to connect with other SWE members. After clean up is over, join the group for a nice lunch to catch up.

Reach out to Izzie Grant if you would like to volunteer.
